THINKING OF BURNING OUTDOORS . . . .

Under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act of Ontario, Open Air Burning in the Municipality of the Town of Bracebridge between April 1, 2007 and October 31, 2007, will be a violation of the Ontario Fire Code.

Open air burning shall not be permitted unless such burning consists of a small, confined fire, supervised at all times and used for cooking food on a grill or a small barbecue or personal warmth.

When there is a total fire ban in the Municipality of the Town of Bracebridge, no burning of any kind will be permitted.

NEW FALSE ALARM INFORMATION

In an effort to reduce the ever increasing number of false fire alarms the Bracebridge Fire Department responds too, we will begin to more stringently enforce the False Alarm By-Law 97-35. Building owners, please be aware that if the Fire Department responds to a third or any subsequent false alarm at the same location within a one (1) year period, an invoice may be issued requiring payment at a rate of $300.00 for the first hour and $120.00 for each additional half hour with a minimum charge for any attendance of $300.00.  We encourage owners to ensure that their alarm systems are checked regularly and maintained to standard so as not to require a full emergency response to a non-existing situation. The following are just a few reasons that we must work towards reducing the number of false alarm responses.

1. Create public confidence towards fire alarm systems.

2. Reduce complacency toward fire alarm systems.

3. Reduce the disruption and associated losses for business.

4. Reduce the number of unproductive fire responses.

5. Minimize the risk of unwanted injury to the public and firefighters as a result of responding to unwanted false alarm activations.

6. Reduce the amount of lost time asked of our volunteers and their employers.

In order to avoid the cost and frustration associated with false alarms, ensure that your alarm system is checked regularly and maintained by qualified personnel. For further information please contact the Bracebridge Fire Department at 645-5264 Ext. 223.
